Russia
With cultural treasures, artistic inheritance, historic towns and
flower-filled meadows, Russia continues to be surrounded by mystique
and it is a must see for visitors. It?s now much more accessible to
tourists.
In Moscow the main attraction of the city is Red Square with its
onion domed Russian orthodox churches. On one side of it lies the
Kremlin surrounded by a thick red fortress containing 20 towers.
Ivan the Terrible?s throne is situated near the entrance and this is
also the site were many Tsars were crowned.
St Petersburg, north west of Moscow, commonly known as the
?Venice of the north?, is famous for its waterways, culture and
elegant buildings. The city lies in the delta of the river Neva and
covers 42 islands. The Winter Palace and the Palace Square are
steeped in history and the State Hermitage Museum contains treasures
of former Tsars.
South of St Petersburg lies Novgorod, with many interesting sites
to see ? inside the Kremlin is the Cathedral of St. Sophia, the
Millennium of Russia Monument and the Chamber of Facets. Just across
from the Kremlin is Yaroslav?s Court with medieval markets, churches
and palace remains. You will also find the beautifully decorated
Church of Our Saviour-at-llino.
Sochi is a resort town situated on the Black Sea. It has a warm
subtropical climate, warm waters attracting local and international
tourists. The resort complex of Dagomys is the main attraction here
as well as beautiful gardens, waterfalls, mountains and stunning
views.
The Volga River runs from Yaroslavl to Volgograd. Towns on the
river include Kazan, an old Tatar city with several mosques as well
as Lenin?s birthplace Ulyanovsk. Volgograd is best known for the
battle fought here during WWII and is full of museums and monuments
documenting this tragic event.
